July, 19 2010 - Now Lebanon - Al-Liwaa: Syria admits detaining 800 Lebanese in Syrian prisons

A source close to the Lebanese delegation that traveled to Damascus on Sunday said that Syrian officials admitted during their talks with Lebanese ministers that Damascus is holding 800 Lebanese detainees in its prisons, Al-Liwaa newspaper reported on Monday.

The source added there are 28,000 who went missing during the civil war.

“The issue of detainees was transparently discussed [in Damascus],” the source said.

He also said that officials from both sides agreed during their talks to enhance the work of the commission previously formed to tackle bilateral issues so that the issue of detainees would be resolved.
