July 21, 2010 - Naharnet - Police Rescue Lebanese Kidnapped in Benin, Arrest Kidnappers

Police in the West African country of Benin rescued a Lebanese man kidnapped by three gunmen, one of them a Nigerian, a police source in the city of Cotonou said Tuesday night.
The head of the special force that carried out the operation to release Abdel Rida al-Duhaini said the gunmen were arrested.

Al-Duhaini is "safe and sound," he said.

A police source had said that al-Duhaini, 33, was kidnapped by four gunmen while he was on his way home on Sunday. He works in the trade of cars.

The kidnappers, who were making calls from Nigerian phone lines, asked for a 50,000 dollar ransom. However, they agreed to accept 30,000 dollars after negotiations, the source said.
