Justice Minister Ibrahim Najjar told Future News on Monday that Syrian officials did not admit to holding Lebanese detainees in Syrian prisons during bilateral talks in Damascus on Sunday. “[However], the Syrians said they have 1,000 missing nationals in Lebanon.”
This comes after Al-Liwaa newspaper reported on Monday that Syrian officials admitted during their talks with Lebanese ministers that Syria is holding 800 Lebanese detainees in its prisons.
“We agreed to maintain contact between the Lebanese and Syrian justice ministers to be able to finalize matters related to the detainees’ issue,” Najjar added.
He also said that he will call for a meeting between the representatives of Lebanese detainees in Syria and the members of the Lebanese-Syrian commission tasked with handling the matter so as to find a final solution to the issue.
