The Secretary General of the Lebanese Center for Human Rights is Denied Entry into Syria

Wadih Al-Asmar, Secretary General of CLDH and Member of the Executive Committee of the Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Network, was planning to go to Syria yesterday (Sunday), but was denied entry by the Syrian authorities on the grounds that his name "was included in the computer as persona non grata."
Wadih Al-Asmar has been active for many years on the issue of the Lebanese victims of enforced disappearance in Syrian prisons, and has been going to Syria steadily since 2003 unhindered. CLDH protests against this sudden decision of the Syrian authorities which puts an obstacle to any discussion with the authorities in Syria.
CLDH calls on the Syrian authorities to reconsider this decision and to accept that human rights defenders travel to Syria for purposes of open dialogue with civil society as well as with state authorities.

Le Secrétaire Général du Centre Libanais des Droits Humains est interdit d’entrée en Syrie

Wadih Al-Asmar, Secrétaire Général du CLDH et membre du Comité exécutif du Réseau Euro Méditerranéen des Droits de l’Homme, devait se rendre hier dimanche en Syrie, mais s’est vu refuser l’entrée sur le territoire par les autorités syriennes, au motif que son nom « figurait dans l’ordinateur comme persona non grata ».

Wadih Al-Asmar est actif depuis de nombreuses années sur la question des disparus libanais dans les prisons syriennes, et se rendait en Syrie régulièrement depuis 2003 sans jamais être inquiété.
Le CLDH proteste contre cette soudaine décision syrienne qui met un obstacle à toute discussion avec les autorités de la Syrie.

Le CLDH appelle les autorités syriennes à revenir sur cette décision et à accepter que les défenseurs des droits humains se rendent en Syrie dans un but de dialogue ouvert, tant avec la société civile qu’avec les autorités étatiques.

كان منتظراً أن يقوم السيد وديع الأسمر ،الأمين العام للمركز اللبناني لحقوق الانسان وعضو اللجنة التنفيذية للشبكة الأورومتوسطية لحقوق الإنسان , بزيارة إلى سوريا يوم أمس الأحد, ولكنه منع من الدخول من قبل السلطات السورية , على أساس أن اسمه أدرج " في الكمبيوتر من بين الأشخاص المنوعين من الدخول إلى سوريا" .

لقد نشط وديع الأسمر لسنوات عدة بشأن مسألة المفقودين اللبنانيين في السجون السورية ، وزار سوريا بشكل منتظم منذ عام 2003 دون أن يتعرض له أحد على الإطلاق .
إن المركز اللبناني لحقوق الانسان يحتج على هذا القرار السوري المفاجئ الذي يضع عقبة أمام أي مناقشات مع السلطات في سوريا .

ان المركز اللبناني لحقوق الانسان يدعو السلطات السورية إلى إعادة النظر في هذا القرار وإلى تقبل زيارات ألمدافعين عن حقوق الإنسان الى سوريا من اجل فتح حوار , مع كل من المجتمع المدني ومع السلطات
