April 17, 2010 - Now Lebanon - Groups supporting the missing criticize state’s attitude and “fake promises”

The Support of Lebanese in Detention and Exile organization in Lebanon (SOLIDE), the commission of the families of the missing people and the Lebanese Center for Human Rights issued a statement on Saturday condemning “the negative attitude and fake promises of Lebanese officials” on the fate of the missing.

According to the statement, the meeting between the aforementioned commissions and Minister of State Jean Ogassapian on Saturday did not take the commissions’ demands into consideration.

Ogassapian reportedly said that establishing a DNA database to identify the missing people is a sensitive and complicated issue.

The statement reiterated the commissions’ call for creating the DNA database as well as for establishing a national committee for the victims of enforced disappearance.
