Minister of State Jean Ogassapian issued a statement on Wednesday voicing the importance of the issue of the Lebanese nationals missing and detained in Syria. The issue should be kept out of the media and not be politicized, he added.
Ogassapian also called for forming a national committee for the victims of enforced disappearances. He also said that a database—conforming to international standards—of the missing has been established, without elaborating further.
He reiterated that he headed a Lebanese delegation to Damascus on Monday to meet with Syrian officials to follow-up on the proposals to amend bilateral agreements.
Both parties expressed eagerness for constructive cooperation and openness to the proposed suggestions, he added.
Ogassapian also said that the Lebanese and Syrian officials will decide on the necessity of further meetings to finalize the agreements as well as the political level they will be held on.
